Dr. Kristen Yuanxi Li (PhD in Computer Science, Hong Kong Baptist University) worked as a social entrepreneur before she joined HKBU. She has been teaching courses at Bachelor and Master levels. She developed and has been teaching several new GE courses in all three levels, including “Design for Smart City: Towards a Sustainable Living”, “Design Thinking and IT Empower Social Innovation”, “The Coming of AI and What It Means for Our Communities” and “Life is a Game, How to Win”. Dr. Li has been invited as a speaker in local and international conferences and workshops to share her teaching pedagogy. She also won several international teaching awards, including the Learning Technologist of the Year 2020 from ALT UK, and has been awarded three teaching grants. Dr. Li has been the Lead of the international workshop Design for Sustainability (https://www.comp.hkbu.edu.hk/designworkshop/).

Dr. Li currently teaches 4 GE courses across all levels, including GFQR1035 Life is a Game; How to Win?, GTSU2055 To Fear or Not To Fear: The Coming of AI and What It Means for Our Communities, GTSC2055 Design Thinking and IT Empower Social Innovation and GCAP3065 Design for Smart City: Towards a Sustainable Living. The Panel was impressed by the range of education technology adopted by Dr. Li in and beyond classroom to stimulate active and collaborative learning of her students. Her innovative teaching methodology to encourage student engagement and interaction was also commended.

The participation and involvement of Dr. Li in GE-related events and projects, such as presenting in the GE Sharing Session and empowering students through the GE Students-as-Partners Scheme, showed her dedication to delivering the best student experience in her GE courses, which was also commended by the Panel.    

The Panel recommended Dr. Li to receive the Honourable Mention to recognise her meaningful effort and valuable contributions to the development of effective teaching and learning in GE.
